As the country is located in a tropical climate, the weather and season in Indonesia are unique. It only has two seasons, wet and dry seasons. The weather in Indonesia is steady all the year where the temperature range is between 23-33 degree Celsius in both day and night almost every day.

The Overview Weather and Season in Indonesia

Geographical location in Indonesia is the main reason why the weather is steady. Unlike other countries with four seasons, Indonesia only has two types. All parts of the Indonesian archipelago experience the same pattern all year round. Another influence of these factors is monsoon winds every six months.

Monsoon in April to October causes dry air to pass through Indonesia. Most parts of the country will see clear air in the morning and night. However, it may bring drought to several regions in Indonesia and farmers experience crop failure when it is too extreme.

From October to April, the Pacific Ocean blows wind with high humidity over Indonesia. It causes the weather and season in Indonesia to become wet all the months because of rainfall. However, rainfall might not occur every day. In extreme cases, these months may mark flooding cases in some parts of Indonesia.

Weather Patterns in Indonesia

The weather pattern in Indonesia is not far different all year. Since the location of the country is in a tropical climate, Indonesians enjoy full sun exposure from the morning to the afternoon. The temperature is about 23-33 degrees Celsius all day. In the coastal areas, they may be hotter because of the winds.

The humidity in Indonesia is also high which has become the specialty of weather in the country. All year, it is about 70-90%. Even though it is the wet season and dry season, people will feel hotter compared to other climate types. During the rainy season, the humidity is more intense.

Historical data may predict differently because of climate change. Some rainy days occur during the dry season and drought can occur during the rainy season. It is a big challenge for a country that focuses on agriculture like Indonesia.

Two Seasons in Indonesia

1.       Wet season in Indonesia

Wet season in Indonesia occurs for 6 months, from October to April. This is why some cities in the country may experience flooding, especially the dense areas near big rivers. The most frequent cities that are flooded are Jakarta, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

The rainfall in Indonesia during this period is uneven. Some cities have rainfall with great intensity, so is the humidity. It does not occur all the time, but it can occur in the afternoon to the next day. In this season, people barely see the sun because it gets covered by thick clouds.

Although the rain pours during this season, it is usually hotter because of the humidity level. The temperature range is between 26-30 degrees Celsius during this season. Weather and season in Indonesia can be unpredictable so people should prepare better while having activities outside.

2.       Dry season in Indonesia

The dry season in Indonesia starts from May to September. However, some days may be rainy days even though the intensity is not that high. Some areas in Indonesia have longer dry season. They usually have a dry season until mid-October every year.

The ambience is hotter in this season because of full sun. Most days are sunny and the plants get long sun exposure every day. The humidity during this season is low. The temperature of the dry season is above 29 degrees Celsius, both day and night almost every day.

The biggest challenge during the dry season is drought. It occurs in some areas of Indonesia, especially the Eastern region. Thus, it has bad effects on farming because crop failure is likely to happen. The positive side of the dry season is that it is the best time for both domestic and foreign tourists to travel.

The pattern of weather and season in Indonesia are sometimes difficult to predict accurately. This matter should trigger the government to provide an early warning system with an SMS broadcaster device to spread the warning to people.
